Holy Reads - Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Holy Reads ("Holy Reads", "the App", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by Holy Reads OÜ (registry code 14784471, Sakala tn 7-2, Kesklinna linnaosa, Tallinn, Harju maakond, Estonia), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Holy Reads mobile application, website (holyreads.com), and related services (together, the "Service"). This policy has been prepared in accordance with the Google Play Developer Program Policies, including the current User Data and Data Safety requirements, and applies to all users of the Service, including users in the European Economic Area (GDPR), California (CCPA/CPRA), and other applicable jurisdictions.

By downloading, installing, or using Holy Reads, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

In line with the Data Safety section we declare on Google Play, we collect the following categories of data:

a) Personal Information

• Account information: name, email address, and password (or sign-in token if you use Google/Apple/Facebook sign-in).
• Profile details you choose to provide (e.g., display name, profile photo).
• Billing and subscription information: subscription plan, transaction ID, and payment status (payment card details are processed directly by our payment processors, such as Google Play Billing, the App Store, or Stripe/Razorpay we do not store full card numbers).
• Communications you send us, e.g., support emails or in-app feedback (name, email address, message content).

b) App Info and Performance Data

• Crash logs, diagnostics, and error reports.
• App interactions: features used, pages/books viewed, reading/listening/watching progress, notes, and highlights.
• Device information: device model, operating system version, unique device/advertising identifiers, IP address, and general (non-precise) location derived from IP address.
• Log data such as access times, app version, and referral source.

c) Content You Create

• Notes, highlights, bookmarks, and downloaded content associated with your account, stored to sync your progress across devices.

Data isn't end-to-end encrypted at rest in all cases. As disclosed in our Play Store Data Safety section, some data collected by Holy Reads may not be encrypted in transit/at rest within our systems; we nonetheless apply industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (see Section 6).

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account and provide access to book summaries, audiobooks, videos, prayers, and meditations.
• To process subscription payments and manage billing through Google Play Billing, the App Store, or third-party payment processors.
• To sync your reading progress, notes, and highlights across your devices.
• To personalize content recommendations and improve the Service.
• To send service-related communications (e.g., renewal reminders, password resets) and, where you have opted in, marketing communications.
• To monitor app performance, diagnose crashes, and fix bugs.
• To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
• To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from public authorities.

3. Sharing and Disclosure of Information

As reflected in our Play Store Data Safety disclosure, Holy Reads may share App info and performance data with third parties. We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

• Service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, analytics (e.g., Firebase/Google Analytics), crash reporting, customer support tooling, and email delivery.
• Payment processors (Google Play Billing, Apple App Store, Stripe, Razorpay, or similar) to process subscription payments.
• Advertising and analytics partners, where applicable, to measure app performance and understand aggregate usage trends.
• Legal and regulatory authorities where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Holy Reads, our users, or others.
• Business transfers - if Holy Reads is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Reading progress, notes, and highlights are retained for the life of your account. When you delete your account (see Section 7), we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., financial/billing records).

5. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request deletion of your personal data (see Section 7 for in-app steps).
• Object to or restrict certain processing, including marketing communications.
• Request a portable copy of your data.
• Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

6. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including access controls, secure hosting infrastructure, and regular review of our data handling practices. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. As disclosed in our Play Store listing, not all data processed by Holy Reads is encrypted; we recommend using a strong, unique password for your account.

7. How to Delete Your Account and Data

You can permanently delete your Holy Reads account and associated personal data directly from within the app, in line with Google Play's account deletion requirements. To do so:

1. Open the Holy Reads app and sign in to your account.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Tap Delete Account.
4. When prompted, type "DELETE" in the confirmation box to confirm.
5. Tap Confirm — your account and associated data will be permanently deleted.

Once confirmed, your account, profile information, notes, highlights, and reading history are permanently deleted from our active systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records (such as billing/transaction records) to comply with tax, accounting, or legal obligations. Deletion is irreversible and cannot be undone.

If you are unable to access the app, you may also request account and data deletion by emailing [email protected] from your registered email address with the subject line "Account Deletion Request."

8. Children's Privacy

Holy Reads is rated for a general audience (3+) but is not directed at, and does not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction) without parental consent. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information may contact us at [email protected].

9. International Data Transfers

Holy Reads is operated by Holy Reads OÜ, based in Estonia, and your information may be processed and stored on servers located in other countries, including the United States and the European Union, which may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses to protect data transferred internationally.

10. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., payment providers, social sign-in providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or Google Play policy updates. We will notify you of material changes via the app, our website, or by email, and will update the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
